On July 17 the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Italy H.E. Ms. Victoria Bagdassarian paid a working visit to Montesilvano, where she was received by mayor Antonio Maranio, members of the City Council Walter Kozzi and Deborah Comand, as well as the President of the City Council Umberto Di Pasquale and Advisor Adriano Tocco. On May 18, 2016 the City Council of Montesilvano unanimously adopted a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide.

In his speech the Mayor Maranio mentioned that the meeting in Montesilvano is a part of the path that city has created for the purpose of trade, tourism and cultural cooperation with other countries, pointing out prospects for developing opportunities with Armenia. The Mayor also expressed his hope that the meeting will be followed by a number of other ones, and as a result it will be able to engage in different sectors of cooperation.

In her remarks the Ambassador of Armenia H.E. Victoria Bagdassarian expressed her satisfaction with the meeting and noted that by recognizing the Armenian Genocide, Montesilvano created a basis for a different future where such terrible crimes against humanity will never repeat. The Ambassador also emphasized the interest of Armenia in developing economic relations and added that Armenia is a gateway to Eurasian and Iranian markets and the works done during the past year were oriented in that direction. In this regard, in June of the current year a business forum was held at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs which provided an opportunity to present trade and investment opportunities in Armenia. Ambassador Bagdassarian expressed conviction that it is possible to implement a joint project in the territory of Montesilvano.
